I joined the Department of Chemistry as Head of Organic and Biological NMR in April 2024 following 12 years at UCB Biopharma (Slough, UK) as an Analytical Scientist supporting Medicinal Chemistry. I am responsible for the provision and management of the NMR service to support the research and teaching in the Department, as well as planning for future NMR spectroscopy needs and developing the service and its facilities.
My expertise is primarily in solution-state NMR Spectroscopy as applied to small molecules but I am also well-versed in LC-MS including MS/MS and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) applications. I also have experience in performing DFT calculations to support NMR studies and for the assignment of the absolute configuration (AC) of chiral molecules using VCD Spectroscopy.
Alongside my duties at UCB, I completed my Ph.D in Protein NMR Spectroscopy under the supervision of Professor D. Flemming Hansen at University College London in 2021. Our research focused on the development of NMR methodology to characterise Arginine side-chains using 13C‑detection. I also hold Master’s Degrees in Organic Chemistry (University of St Andrews, 2012) and Chemistry with Forensic Science (University of Manchester, 2010).
Away from work, when I am not wrapped around the fingers of my two young daughters, I enjoy reading, cooking and basking in the non-existent glory of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
